Volkswagen was created as a project by the German government under the Nazi Party in 1937. The idea was conceptualized by Adolf Hitler, who wanted to produce an affordable car for the masses, known as the "people's car." The technical design and execution of the car were entrusted to Ferdinand Porsche, an Austrian automotive engineer. The German Labour Front, a Nazi organization, operated the company and facilitated the construction of the Volkswagen factory. The first prototypes of the car, initially called the KdF-Wagen (Strength Through Joy car), were ready by 1938, though mass production was interrupted by World War II.
