who discovered pluto

Pluto was discovered by Clyde Tombaugh, an American astronomer, on February 18, 1930, at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. Tombaugh was a young amateur astronomer with no formal training in astronomy at the time. He discovered Pluto during a systematic search for a ninth planet beyond Neptune, using photographic plates and a blink comparator to detect moving objects among the star fields. The discovery was announced to the world on March 13, 1930.
