The invention of the Toaster Strudel is attributed to Joe Perozzi, a Pillsbury employee and product developer who created the concept in response to a challenge in the late 1970s. He developed small, flat pastries filled with fruit preserves that eventually evolved into the Toaster Strudel product launched by Pillsbury in 1985. While the idea of a flakier, buttery toaster pastry was also reportedly conceptualized by Joseph LeFevre in the early 1980s, Joe Perozzi is credited with inventing the Toaster Strudel as we know it today and bringing it to market. Seth Thomas later helped refine the production process for mass manufacturing. The Toaster Strudel became a popular breakfast staple known for its flaky crust, sweet fruit filling, and icing packet.
