Born Laufey Lín Bing Jónsdóttir on April 23, 1999, in Reykjavík, she has an Icelandic father and Chinese mother, grew up splitting time between Iceland, Washington D.C., and Beijing, and speaks Icelandic, English, and Mandarin. She began piano at age four, cello at eight, performed as a cello soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra at 15, and competed as a finalist on Ísland Got Talent in 2014 and semifinalist on The Voice Iceland in 2015.
