Ryan Wesley Routh is an American man born on February 18, 1966, known for attempting to assassinate then-presidential candidate Donald Trump on September 15, 2024, at Trump's golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. Routh, who had previously supported Trump but became disillusioned, was found hiding with a rifle and was shot at by a Secret Service agent but did not fire his weapon. He fled the scene but was later arrested and charged with attempted assassination and other federal offenses. In September 2025, he was found guilty on all counts and faces life in prison. Routh had a background as a small construction business owner in Hawaii and previously lived in North Carolina.
