The Duke of Kent is Prince Edward. Born in 1935, he has held the title since 1942 and is a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II. The dukedom is a royal title created by King George V and Prince Edward has played an active role in royal duties including the Order of the Garter. His heir apparent is George Windsor, Earl of St Andrews.
