The main residents of Mount Olympus in Greek mythology were the twelve Olympian gods and goddesses: Zeus (king of the gods), Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Hermes, and either Hestia or Dionysus (usually twelve total, sometimes switching one for the other). They lived in magnificent palaces on Mount Olympus. Besides the twelve Olympians, other divine beings also lived there or were associated with the mountain, including:

  • The cup-bearer of the gods, originally Hebe, later Ganymede
  • The Nine Muses (lived at the base)
  • Minor gods, goddesses, nymphs, Titans like Leto and Metis, and attendants such as Nike (goddess of victory) and various other entities related to the gods

Mount Olympus was considered the heavenly home and throne place of the gods, above the clouds, where they feasted on ambrosia and nectar and ruled over the world below.
