The children's novel "James and the Giant Peach" was written by British author Roald Dahl. It was first published in 1961 and has become one of Dahl's most famous works. The story features a young orphan boy named James who embarks on a magical adventure inside a giant peach with a group of anthropomorphic insect friends. Roald Dahl originally planned to write about a giant cherry but chose a peach because it was "prettier, bigger and squishier".
