The Eiffel Tower was made by the French civil engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower from 1887 to 1889. The actual design originated from Maurice Koechlin and Émile Nouguier, two senior engineers working for Eiffel's company. They drafted the initial plans, and with architectural contributions by Stephen Sauvestre, the design was finalized. Gustave Eiffel then bought the rights to the design and led the construction of the tower as the centerpiece for the 1889 Universal Exposition in Paris, celebrating the centennial of the French Revolution.
