Hampton Inn, now known as Hampton by Hilton, is a hotel brand owned by Hilton Worldwide. Although Hilton owns the brand and the associated intellectual property, the majority of Hampton hotels are independently owned and operated by franchisees or hospitality companies rather than being directly owned by Hilton. Hilton acquired the Hampton brand in 1999 when it bought Promus Hotel Corporation, which previously owned Hampton Inn. Since then, Hampton by Hilton has grown to include over 3,000 hotels worldwide, but most physical properties are owned and managed independently under franchise agreements with Hilton, allowing the company to focus on branding rather than direct hotel ownership and operations.
