Trader Joe's is owned by the same family ownership group that owns Aldi Nord, a German discount supermarket chain. Specifically, Trader Joe's and Aldi Nord operate as sister companies under the ownership of three family foundations of the Albrecht family. These are Markus-Stiftung, Jacobus-Stiftung, and Lukas- Stiftung. Although Trader Joe's is owned by the owners of Aldi Nord, it operates independently from the Aldi Nord company. Aldi Süd, another separate company run by a different branch of the Albrecht family, owns the Aldi stores in the US and other regions, but it is legally and financially separate from Aldi Nord and Trader Joe's.
