Annex A of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) is a condensed version of Part One of the guidance. It is intended for staff who do not work directly with children , as a simpler alternative to reading the full Part One. The decision on who should read Annex A versus the full Part One is made by the governing body or proprietor of the school or college based on which version they think will better enable those staff to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
Who should read Annex A?
- Staff not working directly with children , such as administrative or support staff.
- Schools and colleges determine which staff should read Annex A instead of Part One.
- It is used for staff whose roles do not involve direct child contact but still have safeguarding responsibilities.
Who should read the full Part One?
- All staff who work directly with children.
- Governing bodies, proprietors, and senior leadership teams.
- School leaders and designated safeguarding leads.
Summary
All staff in schools and colleges must read either Part One or Annex A to understand their safeguarding responsibilities. Annex A serves as the recommended minimum for those without direct child contact, while Part One is required for those with direct child-facing roles.
