The only president to have served on the U.S. Supreme Court was William Howard Taft. He was the 27th president of the United States from 1909 to 1913 and later served as the 10th chief justice of the Supreme Court from 1921 to 1930. Taft is uniquely notable for holding both offices in his career, first as president and then as chief justice of the Supreme Court.
