Tristan Jass got brain surgery to remove a growth in his brain that doctors had been monitoring for years. The surgery was recommended after new changes showed it could no longer just be watched safely.

What was found in his brain

Doctors first discovered what looked like a small cyst in Tristan Jass’s brain in 2019 after he had a seizure, and they monitored it with annual MRI scans instead of operating right away. Over time the cyst changed, including a new “dot” inside it, leading doctors to treat it as a brain tumor that needed removal to understand exactly what it is and prevent future problems.

Why surgery became necessary

After about six years of yearly MRIs, his most recent scan in late 2025 showed changes that made his medical team decide it was time to operate rather than continue to watch it. They recommended brain surgery both to remove the tumor and to find out whether it is benign or something more serious, reducing the risk it could cause seizures or other neurological issues later.

What surgery he is having

Jass has said he is undergoing a right temporal brain surgery (a type of craniotomy and temporal lobectomy) in which surgeons remove part of the skull to access and remove the tumor. His doctors have told him there is a small but real risk to functions like speech or memory, but operating now is safer than waiting until the tumor is larger or more dangerous.
