Preeclampsia can develop as early as 20 weeks into pregnancy, although this is rare. Most commonly, symptoms begin after 34 weeks. There are even very rare cases where preeclampsia has occurred before 20 weeks, but these are usually associated with specific medical conditions or risks. Early onset before 34 weeks is called early-onset preeclampsia and tends to be more severe. Symptoms may also rarely develop postpartum within the first few weeks after delivery.
