The G20 (Group of Twenty) is an economic grouping of the worlds 20 major countries formed after the Asian financial crisis in 1999 with the understanding that such crises could no longer be contained within a nations borders and required better international economic cooperation. The G20 summit is an annual meeting of the leaders of these countries to discuss important issues such as food security, climate and energy, development, health, and digitalization.
The 18th G20 summit was held in New Delhi, India on September 9-10, 2023, and was the first G20 summit held in India. The theme of the summit was "One Earth, One Family, One Future," which affirms the value of human, animal, plant, and microorganisms and their interconnectedness on planet Earth and in the wider universe. The summit was held in Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition-Convention Centre, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
Throughout the year, ministers, senior officials, and civil societies held meetings and discussions on various issues, and the G20 Leaders Declaration was adopted at the conclusion of the G20 Summit, stating Leaders’ commitment towards the priorities discussed and agreed upon during the respective ministerial and working group meetings. The Indian Presidency also spotlighted Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE), with an emphasis on environmentally sustainable and responsible choices at both the individual lifestyle and the national development level, with the aim of achieving a cleaner, greener, and bluer future. The Working Groups focused on various tracks such as agriculture, anti-corruption, culture, digital economy, disaster risk reduction, and education.
