Halloween started as an ancient Celtic festival called Samhain, celebrated about 2,000 years ago around November 1st. It marked the transition from autumn to winter and was believed to be a time when the boundary between the living and the dead blurred, allowing spirits to visit the living. Later, Halloween developed from the Christian feast of All Hallows' Eve on October 31, the eve before All Saints' Day on November 1st, blending pagan and Christian traditions over centuries.
