The Twin Towers were attacked on September 11, 2001. The North Tower was hit first at 8:46 a.m. by American Airlines Flight 11, and the South Tower was struck at 9:03 a.m. by United Airlines Flight 175. Both towers collapsed within about two hours of being hit.
