The United Nations headquarters is located in the Turtle Bay neighborhood of Midtown Manhattan, New York City. The complex spans 17 to 18 acres and includes key buildings such as the Secretariat, Conference, and General Assembly buildings. Although situated in the United States, the land and buildings are under the sole administration of the United Nations, enjoying extraterritorial status through a treaty with the U.S. government. In addition to the New York headquarters, the United Nations has major regional offices in Geneva (Switzerland), Vienna (Austria), and Nairobi (Kenya). The International Court of Justice, a principal organ of the UN, is based separately in The Hague (Netherlands). Thus, the main "home" of the United Nations is in New York City, with important regional offices in Geneva, Vienna, Nairobi, and The Hague for specific UN functions and agencies.
