The part of a plant cell that absorbs light for photosynthesis is the chloroplast. Chloroplasts contain a green pigment called chlorophyll, which traps the light energy needed to drive the photosynthesis process. The light energy absorbed by chlorophyll in the chloroplasts energizes electrons that participate in the photosynthetic reactions to ultimately produce glucose and oxygen.
