Fiji Water was created by Canadian businessman David Gilmour in 1996. Gilmour founded the company after discovering a natural artesian aquifer on the island of Viti Levu in Fiji, which he recognized as a source of exceptionally pure water. He launched Fiji Water under the original name Natural Waters of Viti Ltd., marketing it as "Earth's finest water." The company built its first factory near the water source to maintain purity, and the water was known for its unique taste and mineral content due to the volcanic rock filtration.
Later, in 2004, Fiji Water was acquired by American entrepreneurs Stewart and Lynda Resnick through their company The Wonderful Company, which helped expand and position Fiji Water as a leading premium imported bottled water brand.
David Gilmour passed away in 2023 but is remembered as the entrepreneur who brought Fiji's water to an international audience.
