Bethpage Golf Course is owned by the state and is part of Bethpage State Park, a public park in Long Island, New York. The park, including the golf courses, was developed from an estate owned by the Yoakum family. In the early 1930s, the Bethpage Park Authority purchased the original private Lenox Hills Country Club and adjacent properties to build Bethpage State Park. Today, the golf courses, including the famous Bethpage Black Course, are publicly owned and operated as part of the New York State Park System.
