The History of the Peloponnesian War was written by Thucydides, an Athenian historian and general who lived during the time of the war (431–404 BC). His work is a detailed and analytical account of the conflict between the Peloponnesian League led by Sparta and the Delian League led by Athens. Thucydides is considered one of the earliest scholarly historians, known for his focus on factual accuracy and his avoidance of divine explanations for human events. His history covers much of the war but ends unfinished around 411 BC.
